Josh Severns - Head Coach

Josh Severns enters his third season as head coach of the Shorter men’s soccer program and second season as head coach of the women’s program. With two winning seasons behind his back in 2006, he hopes to continue the upward swing in 2007.

A graduate of Birmingham-Southern College, Josh was part of three TranSouth Conference championship teams and two regular season conference championships. He participated in the NAIA National Tournament twice, winning the regional championship and appearing in the National Tournament Final Four in 1999. Following graduation, he served two years as a graduate assistant coach at BSC. While in Birmingham, Josh also coached club soccer with Mountain Brook Soccer Club, now called the Birmingham United Soccer Association.

Josh earned a Bachelor of Arts in English in 2001 and is currently earning his master’s from Jacksonville State University in liberal studies. He holds a nationally certified USSF “B” coaching license, a USSF Level 1 goalkeeping diploma and has been an NSCAA member of many years.

Chris Valentine - Graduate Assistant Coach

Chris Valentine starts his first season as the men’s soccer graduate assistant. He served as a starting defender for the Shorter College Hawks from their inaugural season until his graduation in 2007. In his final season, he helped lead the Hawks to their first ever SSAC and Region XIII tournament appearance.

Chris is currently working on his second Bachelor of Arts in secondary education from Shorter College.
