Vic Mitchell - Head Coach

The beginning of the 2006-07 season marks the 17th year Vic Mitchell will serve as the head coach of the Shorter College women’s basketball program. During the past 16 seasons, Coach Mitchell has coached 34 Conference All-Academic selections, 20 All-Conference selections, 11 NAIA Scholar-Athlete selections (Academic All-Americans), a three time NAIA All-American, two Conference Freshman of the Year players, one Conference Player of the Year, one Kodak All-American, and one NAIA National Emil S. Liston award winner. During Mitchell’s tenure, the Lady Hawks won the 1994-95 regular season conference championship, advanced to the 2001-02 NAIA National Tournament, and finished the 2001-02 season with a national ranking of 25th.

Coach Mitchell has been named Conference Coach of the Year twice during his time at Shorter College. After receiving his undergraduate and master’s degrees from the University of Georgia in 1983 and 1984, Coach Mitchell served as the women’s basketball coach for six years at Reinhardt College, where he received region Coach of the Year honors for the 1988-89 season. While at the University of Georgia, Mitchell served as an undergraduate manager and graduate assistant coach for the men’s basketball program. During this time, Mitchell was part of the 1981-82 NIT Final Four Team and the 1982-83 NCAA Final Four Team.

Vanita Riddle - Assistant Head Coach

Coach Vanita Riddle enters her second year as assistant head coach. She brings a great deal of experience to the team this year as she began the 05-06 season just a few months after completing her playing career for the Lady Hawks.

During her tenure at Shorter, Coach “V” lettered in three sports: basketball, volleyball and softball. She led the basketball team in three point shooting during her junior and senior years hitting 94 threes. At the end of her career, she was selected by the Northwest Georgia Tip-off Club as the team’s MVP and by her teammates to receive the coveted Lady Hawk Award. Coach “V” spent her first two years of college at Gadsden State Community College where she also lettered in basketball, volleyball and softball for the Lady Cardinals. Her duties as assistant coach include coordination of all recruiting and scouting, as well as practice and game strategy preparation. She is a graduate of Albertville High School in Albertville, Ala.

Laketa Riddle - Student Assistant

Laketa Riddle enters her first year as the student assistant coach for the Lady Hawks. During her tenure at Shorter, Laketa lettered in three sports: basketball, volleyball and softball. She started her first two years of college at Gadsden State Community College where she lettered in basketball, softball and cross country for the Lady Cardinals. While at GSCC, she received first team All-AJCCC honors her Freshman and Sophomore year. Upon leaving GSCC, Laketa played basketball one year at the University of Montevallo in Alabama before attending Shorter. Laketa will assist her sister in recruiting, scouting, practice and game preparation. She is a graduate of Albertville High School in Albertville, Ala.
